As luck would have it, she was cast as Tracy Turnblad in the 1988 movie, Hairspray, so she was very happy about her weight at the time. She eventually had her own talk show, The Ricki Lake Show, which was canceled. However, she did win a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host for it.

Eventually, she decided it was best to lose weight. She lost 140 pounds and is no longer a size 24 but a stunning size 6.
